Japan had some low Media Create numbers last week.

For those of you who don’t know, Media Create numbers measure how many copies of software and hardware Japanese consumers purchase each week. The numbers for the days between May 11 to May 17 are the worst sales for the game industry since 2001. There was a  60% drop in sales for retail games. It’s also good to note that there was a 60% drop during the same time last year.

What did Media Create have to say about this? They said that the answer is simple: that game publishers just aren’t producing products that people want to buy.

This may be sales for Japan, but  Nintendo have been watching the game market carefully and has developed their consoles with Japan in mind. If this drop in sales continues we may see a drop in sales in the US.
