Once again PS4 reigns supreme according to NPD’s monthly sales reports last month. Despite being outsold by Xbox One in April, PS4 took back the title in May, a Sony spokesperson said in a statement about the NPDs. “PS4 continues to be the cumulative sales leader in the US and globally with more than 20 million consoles already in the market. We are truly humbled by this success and we look forward to sharing what’s next for PS4 at our E3 press conference on June 15.”

Microsoft, after being dethroned, returned with a reassurance that sales are strong, a Sony spokesperson said in a statement about the NPDs. “PS4 continues to be the cumulative sales leader in the US and globally with more than 20 million consoles already in the market. We are truly humbled by this success and we look forward to sharing what’s next for PS4 at our E3 press conference on June 15.”

Overall, sales in hardware retail took a hit, dropping 18 percent. Both companies have a few tricks up their sleeves and plan to reveal them next week at E3.
