The Taken King is the upcoming expansion for Bungie’s hit shooter, Destiny. Bungie has recently released images and details for the upcoming Destiny add-on.

The Dreadnaught is a new area to explore in The Taken King. The Dreadnaught is a flagship of the Taken, the new enemy class in the Destiny expansion. It is a stolen Hive ship, and shows off both Hive architecture and Taken influence. Senior artist Andrew Hopps wrote that Bungie wants to make the ship feel massive, like a new world for players to explore.

Hopps explains: “It was important to us that you would feel the scale as you moved through the hulls of the Dreadnaught, never sure about what to expect as large spaces condensed to claustrophobic tunnels before revealing entirely new areas of the ship.”

“A sense of wonder about the unknown is what drove a lot of the spatial design. It was an incredibly fun challenge to find the right balance between a mysterious tomb ship and the flagship for the Taken fleet – to capture the idea of this unfathomable threat, a monstrous spaceship captained by the Taken King, yet filled with vast caverns and unknown passages. I can’t wait for players to explore and discover all of it’s secrets.”

Bungie will be adding a good amount of stuff for players to do while exploring the Dreadnaught. Before, players could go out on Patrols of the different locations in Destiny. Players could complete simple little missions and participate in Public Events. Both are coming to The Taken King, but with changes.

Designer Ben Wommack explains: “We’ve created a suite of new mechanics and woven them into the Patrol mode. Every week, every day even, it will draw you back to fight through to its depths for loot and glory. Expect to find new Bounties, Patrol Missions, and Public Events both large and small – some of which you can even instigate yourself, if you can discover how.”

The Dreadnaught was also described as a “loot-filled fortress” with many secrets to discover. Players will have to come back many times in order find them all.

Bungie also showed a new boss called the Darkblade. You can see images of the boss below, as well as images of the Dreadnaught.

Destiny: The Taken King releases on September 15th. It was recently announced that all player’s characters will carry over through the series for years to come. It was also recently revealed that hundreds of Destiny players who were found cheating have been banned.
