Team-based shooter Splatoon released for the Wii U back in May. Nintendo has revealed that the title has sold 1.6 million units since then.

In an earnings report for April to June 2015, Nintendo said that Splatoon “enjoyed a good start,” and that the company will “strive to further enhance the sales towards the year-end season.” According to the report, Splatoon sold 490,000 units in Japan, with 1.1 million units being sold around the rest of the world.

“With respect to Wii U, Splatoon, which was released globally in May and gathered attention, marked 1.62 million units in sales and contributed to vitalizing the Wii U platform,” Nintendo stated.

In late June 2015, Splatoon was confirmed to have sold over 1 million units worldwide. “Since Splatoon launched on May 29, it has been great to see so many players competing in online matches,” said Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata. “We are pleased this new Wii U exclusive game is capturing the imagination of so many fans across Europe, and look forward to bringing more exclusive titles to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this year.”
