Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI has reached a total of five million lifetime player accounts. Final Fantasy XVI is a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) that was released in 2010.

The news come after the release of the latest DLC for the game, Heavensward. The release has led to an increase of a million accounts since February 2015. It is important to note that the five million accounts count over the lifetime of the game not subscribers at one time. It does not, however, count free trails so you need to have bought the game.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PS3 and PC. The game went through a ton of ups and downs. In 2011 Square Enix’s CEO stated that the game “greatly damaged” the Final Fantasy brand. The game quickly turned things around with new management and is now doing very well. We will see what the future holds for Final Fantasy MMOs.
