Although Guerilla Games is holding any specific information from their newest game Horizon Zero Dawn close to the chest; they are saying that this game is “much challenging to design” than Killzone Shadowfall.

Hermen Hulst, managing director at Guerilla Games, talked about how the studio was wary about creating a new IP and working on a new genre.

“It’s the sum total of all the newness, all the new stuff to the studio. A new IP, a new genre, it’s open world… Being out of your comfort zone by a mile and a half,” said Hulst.

Hulst continued to describe the development process of Horizon Zero Dawn as “much more challenging” than that of Killzone Shadowfall.

“After we shipped Killzone: Shadow Fall, and we’d been through the hoopla of doing a launch title, I thought that was going to be the toughest thing we’d ever do. It pales in comparison to this. This is so much more challenging on the team in every single way. But I find that doing something that is this refreshing, and that is supported so strongly by the development team, is probably even more important to the success of a title than how far you are out of your comfort zone.”

Finally, when asked about the future of Killzone, he said it was “too early” to comment on the matter, since they will talk about what will come after Horizon Zero Dawn once it’s finished.

“We love that franchise, we really do. But it’s too early for me to comment on future projects. It’s going to be a very big challenge for us to get this title out the door. And as for what’s going to happen after that? We’ll talk about that later.”

Horizon Zero Dawn will be out on PS4 next year.
