With the arrival of the Rainbow Six: Siege beta comes some unfortunate news: there will be no story mode present in the game.

Siege’s art director Scott Mitchell explained at EGX2015 that “there is no story mode per se, you go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customise matches, so that’s what we’re offering on the single-player side of things.” He went on to say that “it’s a pretty good training ground, and on top or that you’re unlocking the same content as you would playing in PvP. You’re still gaining Stars, Renown Points, and new operatives.”

This could come as a bit of a shock to those remembering the Rainbow Six: Vegas days, but then again, this game has been marketed as a multiplayer shooter since the beginning. Is this news a deal breaker for you? Or is it better that a story not be shoehorned in for “extra” value? Let us know in the comments below.
