The European qualifiers for the ESL One New York have concluded with Vega defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas. This has been the first competition for many teams after their roster changes. Both finalists however had made no changes to their rosters. This decision to stay together even after disappointing results at TI5 seems to have payed off, with both teams beating out more favored opposition.
Alliance were expected to make their comeback here. Having reclaimed S4 from Secret, they were looking to improve on a very poor performance at TI5. Their first game against NiP went well, but after losing the next two, they were eliminated very early in the tournament. On the other side of the bracket, NaVi continued their poor form as well. Vega defeated Monkey Freedom Fighters as well as NaVi to book their place in the final.
The best-of-five grand finals saw Vega face off against NiP. Vega employed their aggressive style of play, along with the willingness to swap the roles of 9pashaebashu and No[o]ne. In the end their aggressive play saw them win 3-1 against NiP to book their place in New York.
