Mod tools will be coming to the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III in 2016.

In a blog post, developer Treyarch states that mod tools have been a top request for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and that the developer is excited to bring them to the game. There will be a closed alpha in March 2016, along with an open beta some time later. No specific timing was given.

Treyarch stated that players will be able to create their own maps, modes, and more with the mod tools. There are plans to release unranked dedicated server files alongside the modding tools so that players can run their own servers with modded content. There will also be an unranked server browser mode for players to find servers that feature mods.

However, Treyarch did state that its plans could change as it related to mod support. The developer states: “Please remember that this is software development, so things don’t always work out exactly as planned. Sometimes features slip or drop off altogether, sometimes they get replaced with other, more awesome features as we hit into limitations of our original plans.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops III releases on November 6th. The game will release on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. There is no word yet on whether or not mod support will come to consoles on a later date.
