The much anticipated launch of Halo 5: Guardians finally arrived last week. It should come as no surprise that the release was huge, but according to Microsoft, it blew away even their expectations.
Microsoft’s Xbox Wire revealed that Halo 5 had the biggest launch of the franchise’s long history after it made $400 million in global sales in it’s first week. This achievement puts the series total past $5 billion. Those who had a helping hand with the launch by purchasing the have racked up over 21 million hours in gameplay, 12 million being in the campaign and 9 million in multiplayer. It even earned a Guinness World Record for the most watched video game launch broadcast with over 330,000 unique streams.
