Phil Spencer recently engaged in an interview with The Verge, where he refused to admit that the consoles could be coming to a close.

In a feature piece done by The Verge titled Save Point, it talks about how Microsoft plans to revive the Xbox franchise. After a underwhelming launch due to a number of factors, the Xbox One has been trailing PlayStation 4 for quite some time. Only recently did it manage to outsell the PlayStation 4, and that was all thanks to Halo.

The Verge posed the question to Phil Spencer, “As televisions, computers, and smart devices become the all-in-one-devices that seek to displace consoles, does Xbox just become an app or a storefront or a brand?”

Phil Spencer, Xbox Boss, was quick to retaliate in defense for the Xbox One and future consoles. “No, […] I fully expect that you’ll see another console from us […] Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I’m 100 percent committed to that.”

Spencer had more to say on the topic, however. “I don’t want to dilute what the Xbox console customer feels, […] I want to expand what we’re able to do for more customers.”

The Xbox One has a long fight ahead of them, but the PlayStation 3 did originally start as the underdog in the previous console race. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
