Though we already expected both titles sometime in 2016, EA has confirmed Battlefield 5 and Titanfall 2 will be releasing late this year, meaning EA is looking at a very packed schedule.
“We’ve got a great year ahead,” EA CFO Blake Jorgenson said while speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference (via NeoGAF). “We’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called Titanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand. Both of those are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast, action-driven shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that quarter…”
Last week a rumor, sparked by an online listing, started circulating that the next Battlefield game would be set in World War I. If true, it would certainly help differentiate it from the sci-fi setting of Titanfall.
Early last month, Respawn lead writer Jesse Stern spoke about the fact that Titanfall 2 will absolutely have a singleplayer campaign. “So we are doing our best to deliver a vision of grand global colonial warfare retelling the story of the American Revolution and the American Civil War in space,” he explained.
“We imagined the next generation of immigrants moving out to the new frontier of an inhabitable planet. Rather than taking a traditional sci-fi approach to that we wanted to look at how that would happen practically, what the ships would look like and with machines that were designed for excavation and construction, demolition and working the land, and what happens when they are turned into instruments of war.”
He went on to promise the developer is “keeping it grounded and dirty and human and real.”
Even as Jorgenson made many Battlefield and Titanfall fans happy, he also confirmed Mass Effect Andromeda will not release until early 2017. Are you excited for the next Battlefield and Titanfall installments? Let us know in the comments.
