Recently Chris Charla of ID@Xbox wrote a open letter to other online services.
The letter included notes about cross-platform play for Windows 10 and Xbox One, but they finished off by saying that the invitational was ‘open to all’. “We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”
On top of that, Phil Spencer sent out tweets saying that they’d be open to cross-platform play with PlayStation earlier this week. Although cross-platform play has been discussed by gamers previously, it never seemed like a viable option between the two warring companies.
According to a statement sent to GameSpot, while they aren’t open to 100% cross-platform play, PlayStation would consider partnering up. “PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002, […] We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.”
Although that isn’t a solid yes, PlayStation and Xbox appear to be on the right track when it comes to cross-platform play.
