Do people actually read through the End User License Agreement (EULA) when installing a new game? That’s exactly what developer of Divinity: Original Sin, Larian Studios, wanted to find out. With the launch of the game’s Enhanced Edition, a new section was added to the EULA and it turns out some people actually do look through it.
Larian revealed this secret to everyone in a recent Facebook post. In the EULA, there was a section labeled Special Consideration read the following: “A special consideration in material or immaterial form may be awarded to the first 100 authorized licensees to actually read this section of the EULA and contact LARIAN STUDIOS at info@larian.com. This offer can be withdrawn by LARIAN STUDIOS at any time.”
The offer is no longer available, as Larian got enough responses to satisfy the offer. The studio explained, “We’re telling you now because the results are in and it turns out that you in fact do read these things. Our lawyer feels good about this.”
There’s no word yet what the special consideration will be, material or immaterial. There’s also no word yet on what madness drove these people to the point of reading a EULA.
Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition was released October 27 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. For those who own the game already, it comes and a free update. The update adds controller support, a new crafting interface, complete voiceover for all dialogue, and more. The game’s sequel is also in development thanks to a Kickstarter campaign.
