On February 6, 2015, the Wall Street Journal set the internet ablaze with rumors and excitement when it reported that Netflix was developing a live-action series based on the beloved Nintendo franchise, Legend of Zelda.

Author Ben Fritz cited “a person familiar with the matter” as saying that the show was described by Netflix as “…Game of Thrones for a family audience…” Despite the article going on to say that Netflix had declined comment on the matter and that a Nintendo spokesperson said that the company “doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation,” the internet went wild theorizing what the show would be like, who would be in it, etc.

In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has denied these rumors saying that, “As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films, but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information.”

Though he doesn’t deny the possibility of other Nintendo properties seeing a television or film adaptation in the future, as for now it would appear that Link will not be getting to join the ranks of shows such as House of Cards or Orange is the New Black.
