The developer behind the Dead Island series, Techland, has officially put development on hold for their upcoming dark fantasy FPP game, Hellraid, and will not be released later this year as planned.

“We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy [first playable prototype] game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold,” the developer said through a blog post.

“In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.”

For now, Techland wishes to consolidate their development resources on future production efforts for their wildly popular Dying Light series. The zombie survival game was a huge success when it launched last year, selling millions of copies.

Hellraid was supposed to launch back in 2013 after being announced for previous-gen platforms, but was later pushed back to 2014, before again being delayed to 2015 ditching last-gen consoles for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
