More than 10 years after the release of Earthbound, the original Mother is finally coming to the west.
During the Nintendo World Championship, Shigesato Itoi – the designer of all three Mother games – announced that Mother 1 will come to the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console as “Earthbound Beginnings”. The title will be available for download starting tonight at 6:00 PST.
For the uninitiated, Mother 1 is the predecessor to Earthbound, or Mother 2 as it is known in Japan. The game released in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. While a localized version of the game existed, it was never released in the west.
