Microsoft’s latest update to the Xbox One hasn’t added much in the way of new features, but it has given users greater compatibility with Windows 10 in the area of streaming.

The update will also ready the console for the backwards compatability that Microsoft promised to deliver at E3.

“There are no new user-facing features in this release,” Microsoft said. “The team (is focused) on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year.”

Windows 10 will be integrated into Xbox One, Microsoft have confirmed, as part of a wider initiative of sharing applications across devices.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, said that Windows 10 is being treated with the utmost importance by them.

“We’ll treat gaming on Windows 10 with the same passion as we’ve put into the Xbox console,” Spencer said.

Windows 10 is set for release on July 29th, and will be free to upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 users for twelve months.

A new Xbox app will be available on Windows 10, which will not require Xbox Live.  The OS will also support cross platform play.
