Both the SEA and European qualifiers for the ESL One NY have reached the finals. The SEA qualifiers final will see Fnatic face off against MVP Phoenix. Both teams were favorites to make the final but only one will progress to the main event. The European qualifiers on the other hand, were dominated by the underdogs, with Ninjas in Pyjamas and Vega Squadron making the finals.
Fnatic came into these qualifiers with a completely new roster to the one they had at TI. Despite this, they were able to make their way through the competition without dropping a single game. MVP Phoenix were also impressive in their run, but did drop games to Departure and TnC, beating them both 2-1. In the European bracket, NiP were able to overcome both Alliance and Empire 2-1 in order to secure their place in the final, while Vega beat out tier one seed NaVi to book their place.
Neither NiP or Vega had changed their roster over the shuffle period, and this seems to have benefited them in this competition. Alliance despite having S4 back playing for them, were unable to progress, while Empire were missing their captain, Resolut1on, who is on vacation. The ESL One NY will take place in Madison Square Garden, from the 3rd to the 4th of October.
