A brand new mode has been revealed for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront. Called Drop Zone, it will add a ‘King of the Hill’ gameplay element.

The mode will pit two teams of 8 players against each other, both rushing to capture the same five pods throughout the 10 minute match. Once capture, each of these pods will open up for the respective team that captured it, offering the players power-up orbs.

“When you locate a drop pod’s landing site, make your way to it and trigger the short claim process. Your team will win if it captures five pods, or control the majority of them after the 10 minute match is up. If a pod is consistently changing possession with no team long enough able to defend it, another pod will be sent down to break the stalemate. Then, there would be two pods that the teams have to gain control over.” This was all from lead level designer Dennis Brannvall, speaking about the Drop Zone mode.

Could heroes or villains be included in the potential power pickups?

Could heroes or villains be included in the potential power pickups?

“Claiming pods comes with another perk: they contain power pickups. Once successfully claimed, the pod will start to open. This will take a moment, but staying around to get your hands on the contents can definitely be worth the risk. The choice is yours, though; when your claimed pod is opening up, another one will hit the surface elsewhere and going for that one could be a smarter move”, Brannvall concluded.

Sounds like teams will have to divert their players accordingly in the Drop Zone mode. Do you stick around for the reward and risk the incoming pod falling into enemy hands, or take off, sacrificing the reward, but gaining another foothold on the battlefield?

Star Wars Battlefront will release on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 17th in North America, and November 20th in Europe.
