As free-to-play games are becoming more and more available, Sony exec Scott Rhode has spoken about the company’s latest approach to these new games.  He told Kinda Funny Games in an interview, “There’s a whole generation of young game players–they don’t know any different. So we have to experiment [with free-to-play games].”

Even though these free-to-play games are becoming a commonplace within the gaming industry, there is still some rifts in regards the business model of these games.  Sony already has some free-to-play titles, inclduing Kill Strain, Drawn to Death, and the newest one, Guns up!

Rhode later said about the free-to-play systems, “We are trying very, very hard to make a free-to-play game that makes you feel empowered as a gamer and not something that has gates.  Not something where you say, ‘Oh my god, I could have played this game, but you’re just gating me.’ It’s not there. If you want to grind and play these games forever without spending a dollar, you can do it”
