Sony has revealed online play will be open to all PS4 owners, regardless of whether they have a PS+ Membership or not this weekend.

Whereas normally the online play functionality would be reserved only for members of the PlayStation Plus programme, all owners of the PS4 console will be able to participate in online game modes for any game they own, starting from this Friday, December 11 and running through till Monday, December 14.

This announcement coincides with the release of the Battle of Jakku expansion for Star Wars Battlefront, which launched yesterday for all customers who weren’t part of the early access deal though pre-ordering the base game. It should also be noted that this event does not give everyone the other benefits of being a PS+ member, for example only members will be able to download the free PS+ games for the month.

The free weekend of online connectivity will begin starting December 11 at 12:01Am PST/3:01AM EST and will conclude at 11:59PM PST/2:59AM EST on the Sunday night/Monday morning.
