Amidst a flood of announcements of big returning franchises and new VR titles you might have missed the news of the return of classic fighting game franchise at the Playstation Experience. In concert with SNK Playmore, Sony announced that an new the King of Fighters game is coming to PS4.
A long running series originating in the 1990’s on the Neo Geo the King of Fighters was innovative in it’s use of multiple characters in a match. Players chose three characters to fight with instead of the more traditional single character battles. Early on the King of Fighters were competitive with classic fighting games like Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat, but the popularity of the SNK developed series waned after the advent of polygonal fighters like Vitrua Fighter and Tekken.
The new game is the fourteenth game in series and is slated for a 2016 release on PS4 in Japan. No word on a US release.
