Whilst filming a promotional video for Ubisoft’s upcoming skiing game Steep, professional Matilda Rapaport fell victim to a freak avalanche. The shoot took place in Chile on the Andes mountain on July 14th. Following the incident, her body was recovered and found in a critical state with oxygen loss and brain damage. She was taken to the nearest hospital, intense medical care and assistance couldn’t revive her and the 30-year-old passed away.

This incident wasn’t the first time Rapaport was involved with an avalanche. Back in 2014, she was swept up in an avalanche in Alaska. Since then, she refused to back down and openly talked about her desire to face her fears in order to pursuit the sport she loved. Countless fans both sporting and gaming expressed their condolences for Matilda’s passing to her family including newly wed husband Mattias Hargin.

Ubisoft released a statement after her death expressing their condolences which best sums up the thoughts and feelings of everyone involved with Matilda Rapaport.

“Matilda’s courage, passion, and desire to share the sport she loved with the world served as an inspiration for other athletes and for us all. This tragic accident has deeply touched us. Our hearts and prayers go out to her husband and her wider family at this difficult time.”
