Xbox One boss Phil Spencer has commented on the apparent success of the multiplayer component of Halo 5: Guardians, saying he’s proud of how it launched.

This might seem small, but it’s big news when held in comparison with the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection almost a year ago. The game launched with a broken multiplayer system, which developer 343 was only able to get fixed after months of patches and apologies. Microsoft has since labelled the incident a “black eye” for the developer.

Spencer has now spoken out on the smooth launch of Halo 5’s multiplayer, saying it’s “nice to see Halo multiplayer doing so well again.” While he doesn’t reference the Master Chief Collection, one can only assume it was in the back of his mind in the run up to the launch of Halo 5.

Microsoft announced earlier last week that Halo 5: Guardians had generated over $400 million in revenue, and while the company didn’t specify how many copies of the game had been sold, they did state that this was the most successful launch in the Halo series so far.
