Darrell Gallagher has had his fingers in a lot of pies over the last 10 years.  To name a few are Rise of the Tomb Raider, Life is Strange, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and many more.  He has held his position at Square Enix for a successful decade, but as of the end of 2015, Gallagher will be resigning his position.

An interview with BAFTA Guru revealed his experience in the gaming world, both as a consumer and developer.

“I played games my whole life but I didn’t actually know how they were made,” he said. “But my background is in the arts. So I have an art degree, illustration and fine arts. And that led me down the path of, after college, looking for my first real job, not knowing exactly what that was going to be until I discovered that they actually use artists in games.  So I applied for a job, and very soon I was working at Sony on this thing that was called a PlayStation.”

“Keep focused. It’s very easy to be absorbed in lots of different areas of making games, whether that’s design, art work, programming, or script writing…Become an expert at something, and become better at people in one area.” -Gallagher’s advice to those wanting to get into the gaming industry

It was under his supervision that the very successful reboot of the Tomb Raider series was created, as Studio Head at Crystal Dynamics.

Square Enix West CEO Phil Rogers wished Gallagher off with a heartwarming farewell, “I am sad to see him go but respect his decision and we should all celebrate the sheer blood, sweat and tears he has put into our company over the last 10 years! We are excited for him and his family on their next chapter. We wish them the best of luck in the future.”

His position will be filled by Scot Amos and Ron Rosenburg, who have both been working under Cystal Dynamics for over 5 years.
