The Resident Evil 7: Biohazard demo, Beginning Hour, will get another update before the game’s release, which may reveal more about the full game.

The Resident Evil 7 demo, Beginning Hour has been explored top to bottom for clues; players have figured out how to use past events to affect the future, unlocking an axe, an attic, and more. Even after one update expanded what players could do in the demo, players have hit a wall, though, and have grown so frustrated as to have stopped looking further. Most infuriating, perhaps, is the inclusion of a “Dummy Finger” item, which appears to have no use– just like the axe, which can destroy, but unlocks nothing.

However, these things will likely serve a purpose soon. Producer Masachika Kawata told Yuga Tech in an interview that “We do plan to update the demo on PSN for the players to experience the other aspects of the game. We don’t have a fixed date, but it will definitely be out before the game comes out.” We’ve seen puzzle-solving; this may indicate that we’ll see another series “aspect” in action, combat.

He went on to describe an important shift in focus for the series: Resident Evil 7 won’t feature online components or multiplayer. It looks like Resident Evil is returning to its single-player horror roots.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard releases January 24th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, Xbox One, and PC. You can download the demo, Beginning Hour, for free now.
