Since it’s announcement as a Wii U title in 2013, fans have been waiting with bated breath for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Many delays later, Nintendo said they were planning for the game to be a Switch launch title.

Thanks to a tip from Emily Rogers, known for reliable Nintendo hints, it’s possible that Breath of the Wild won’t be released with the Switch. It isn’t surprising for such an expansive game that breaks the normal Legend of Zelda formula, but it is a bitter pill to take. It looks like localization might not finish until the end of the year, with even more time lent to testing before it can be released. Nintendo is a very thorough company, trying to release the most polished product they can.

If Breath of the Wild isn’t ready by March, it’s likely that another game will take its place as the hype-heavy launch title, with Legend of Zelda being put aside for a better release date, possibly in the summer. The question is, what game has the potential to be just as exciting, if not more, than the new open world Zelda? Maybe a new Mario Kart, a fan favorite, or the next Super Mario Galaxy.

Whatever Nintendo chooses to do in the situation, fans can rest assured that they’ve dealt with this before, and will think of something wonderful.
