With the DC cinematic universe playing catch to Marvel’s already established (and successful) film universe, Warner CEO Kevin Tsujihara has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter regarding the decision to change the movie’s release dates multiple times.

The film was originally set for a July 2015 release, but it was quickly moved to May 2016, and then finally it was moved to March 25, 2016 to avoid conflict with Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.

“It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015,” said Tsujihara. “But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie.”

“Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night,” he said. “I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC.”

Batman v Superman will be the second film in DC’s cinematic universe (the first being 2014’s Man of Steel). Warner’s future releases include David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, two Justice League movies and a new Batman which is rumored to be being directed by Ben Affleck.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder (300, Suckerpunch and Watchmen) and will star Ben Affleck as The Dark Knight and Henry Cavil as Superman.
