Mario Kart has been a staple of Nintendo for years, and each new console/handheld has its own entry in the franchise. The latest game, Mario Kart 8, will soon re-release as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch. And to celebrate, Nintendo released a new trailer that details all the upcoming changes and additions.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will come with all of Mario Kart 8’s DLC, including The Legend of Zelda’s Link and Animal Crossing’s Isabelle playable characters. Deluxe will also bring back old fan favorite racers such as King Boo, Bowser Jr., and Dry Bones, all of who were absent in Mario Kart 8. Furthermore, players will be able to race as either the Inkling Boy or Inkling Girl, both newcomers to Mario Kart, and dress up their Mii racers in new amiibo costumes.
While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will not introduce new items, the game will include several items from past Mario Kart games that were missing in Mario Kart 8. These items include the Feather, which is only usable in Battle Mode, and the Boo item. Speaking of Battle Mode, Deluxe will introduce several new battle arenas, including the Splatoon-inspired Urchin Underpass. Furthermore, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will include Battle Mode games from previous Mario Karts, such as Coin Runners and Bob-omb Blast, as well as introduce new games like Renegade Roundup.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will also contain two new features: the ability to brake while drifting and the new steering assist. Steering assist is designed to help newcomers avoid falling off tracks.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will launch April 28th for the Nintendo Switch.
