Late last month, NetherRealm Studios teased the story of Injustice 2 with part one of the “Shattered Alliances” trailer. Part two is now available and dives even deeper into the upcoming story.
The trailer opens with Bruce Wayne addressing an audience of people explaining how the members of The Regime were complicit in Superman’s crimes, after which Lucius Fox pleads for Wayne to “widen [his] circle of trust.” These scenes hint that Batman might create a new Justice League, which is also implied by Blue Beetle during Black Canary’s trailer. The rest of the Shattered Alliances trailer is mostly devoted to snippets and clips that divulge character motivations and alliances. Harley Quinn is allied with Batman, Black Canary, and Green Arrow; Cyborg wants to resurrect The Regime. while Gorilla Grodd has (in a “blink and you miss it” moment) recruited Bane, Cheetah, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and the yet-to-be-announced Captain Cold to join his army.
The highlights of the trailer are not these story hints but instead the reveals of Green Lantern, Reverse Flash, and Captain Cold. While the trailer shows off several of Green Lantern’s fighting moves, Reverse Flash is only seen battling The Flash, and Captain Cold merely stands near Gorilla Grodd. However, we do not know if Reverse Flash and Captain Cold will be playable characters.
Injustice 2 is scheduled to release May 16th for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
