Back in 2007, the start to a new Transformers franchise was released. The film, starring Shia LaBeouf and directed by Michael Bay, was ill received critically. That didn’t stop people from seeing the film, which got over $700 million in the box office.

Followed by 3 sequels, all directed by Michael Bay, he hinted that Transformers: Age of Extinction would be the last movie he directed. That statement has been altered, however, in a recent interview with the Rolling Stones.

The director best known for explosions has stated that the untitled 5th transformers film will be last, but he didn’t say it would be the franchise’s last. “I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else.”

No word yet on who this new director will be, but perhaps the franchise will be saved from falling to far into the money grab.
