Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim brought many fans the simple joy of seeing giant robots beat up giant monsters. Anyone who has grown up with Voltron or Power Rangers knows that bringing this to the big screen was a good idea. So, why has the sequel been cancelled? Perhaps it hasn’t been.
With del Toro signing on with The Fantastic Voyage, a sci-fi remake, it seemed Pacific Rim 2 was down for the count. Seeing this on the Internet himself, Guillermo had to take to Twitter. “Don’t believe everything you read,” the famed director stated. “It’s still going and I’ll remain w it in one way or another!” This is great news for fans of the first film and anyone who likes to see big monsters get hit with ships.
The Internet can be a hard place to handle when rumors go flying around, but there is a little truth to everything. While Pacific Rim 2 may still exist in one form or another, will Guillermo del Toro still be directing? How long will we have to wait? Only time will tell.
