The young adult series that swept the nation and the world with its books and movies may not end with Katniss’ epilogue.  For the Hunger Games, as said by vice chairman of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, that there are already plans to produce more films.  This begs the question of where pick up from after Mockingjay: Part 2.  However, the answer is simple: There are 73 other Hunger Games that took place before Katniss, Peeta, or Gale, two of which are Quarter Quells. Burns addressed the lack of arenas after the two Mockingjay movies, saying, “If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas.”

Lionsgate’s chief executive, Jon Feltheimer expressed that they are “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities.”

Josh Hutcherson on Conan

And in that moment, Josh knew he’d said too much.

The world even had an inkling that this might not be the end of the franchise back in July.  This was when Josh Hutcherson slipped up during an interview on Conan, revealing that there were more plans.

With the franchise having made over 2.7 billion worldwide, it’s easy to see Lionsgate’s desire to keep the ball rolling.  We may be seeing some old faces in Games of their own someday.  One possibility is Katniss’ mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, who was placed in the 50th Hunger Games, a Quarter Quell where twice as many children were put into the arena as usual.  Perhaps we may see the youngest victor of the games, Finnick Odair.  Or maybe we will see a new story entirely.
