After the long wait and two release date changes, Legendary Pictures, together with Universal Pictures, and Blizzard released the official trailer for their Warcraft movie.  It was premiered at BlizzCon 2015 in Anaheim, CA, kicking off the con’s opening ceremonies with a bang, or rather, a clash of swords.

The trailer features the beautiful, intricate work of the WETA Workshop, and top quality special effects. Opening with a stunning view of a gryphon soaring over a snow-capped mountain range, it quickly sets the tone for the vast world. There are variety of locations around the world of Azeroth on the brink of the First War, a violent conflict between the humans and orcs, in which the latter of them had invaded, from their wasteland home of Draenor, the lush, rich Azeroth.  This is, in essence, the beginning of the story originally told in the RTS game, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, later expanded upon through novels, and continued in sequels and the popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft.  The story follows two characters on opposing sides of this war: Sir Anduin Lothar (played by Travis Fimmel), a knight of Stormwind and champion in the Azerothian kingdoms, and Durotan (Toby Kebbell), chieftain of the Frostwolf orc tribe, who wrestles with doubts about the morals and motives of the Horde.

This trailer opens up a beautifully detailed gate to newer fans to jump in on the excitement. However, older fans shouldn’t fear–there’s plenty of tidbits and sneak-peeks at familiar characters and places in the trailer to speculate on.
