The Uncharted movie has hit its fair share of roadblocks, and now hopes to pull past those with its latest writer, Joe Carnahan.
The film has already cycled through several directors, and received anything but a blessing from Nolan North, who does the mocap for Uncharted’s protagonist, Nathan Drake. After losing writer Mark Boal, who worked on Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, and David O. Russell, writer of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy, the film has brought on Joe Carnahan.
Carnahan’s record isn’t as stunning as the film’s previous writers. His most successful flicks are “Liam Neeson vs wild” thriller The Grey and the recent romp that was the remake of The A-Team. As The A-Team shows, Carnahan is fully capable of making a fun, action-packed love-letter to a franchise, but as Nolan North posits, fans expect a smart, gripping, and mature story from Uncharted. It remains to be seen whether Carnahan can deliver. Some good news for fans is that, at the very least, Carnahan clearly takes this responsibility seriously. He just tweeted the following:

Despite the tumultuous creative process, Uncharted is still set to release June 30th, 2017— one year to the day from Carnahan’s tweet. Fingers crossed.
