In the wake of Hulk Hogan’s newest controversy—a racial tirade that just so happens to have occurred immediately after his now infamous sex tape—2K representatives recently confirmed to both Polygon and IGN that the wrestler will indeed be completely removed from their upcoming game, WWE 2K16.
2K representatives confirmed that:
We are highly respectful of the way that our partners choose to run their business and manage our partnerships accordingly. We can confirm that Hulk Hogan will not appear in WWE 2K16.
While it may come across as surprising that the WWE would be so quick to cut ties with arguably their most recognizable personality, the company does have an impressive track record with distancing themselves from their less desirable employees. Such was the case in 2007 with Chris Benoit, after he killed his family and committed suicide.
This is yet another case of a high profile organization cutting ties with a big name due to racism. Back in 2013, Food Network did the same with Paula Deen when she became involved in a lawsuit alleging racial and sexual discrimination. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you have a big name like Hulk Hogan or Paula Deen; racism isn’t cool. For more on WWE 2K16, keep checking back with Gamespresso.
