Take-Two Interactive has been a staple in the gaming industry for quite some time. You may not always realize it, but they have had a helping hand in some amazing titles such as Grand Theft Auto, Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, and more. While these games have been well received and lucrative, the indie gaming world is also rising more and more each day. Does Take-Two plan on dipping their toes in that market?

With larger companies like Nintendo, Konami, and others getting into mobile gaming, it only makes sense for others to spread out beyond their AAA titles as well. In a recent interview with Gameindustry.biz, Take-Two Interactive seemed to share this mentality. “We do have an indie program,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick. “We haven’t given it a name but we’re working with some independent studios on some independent properties. We’ve [been] doing it about a year. The way we tend to do things is we’re quiet until we have something to talk about.”

Corporate communications chief Alan Lewis added, “We really haven’t talked about the structure but I think what it speaks to is our interest in creating a variety of entertainment experiences… We’ll have more to share in due time but clearly we think there’s some very talented independent developers who are out there whose work would complement what we’re already doing.”

While thins are moving forward, it doesn’t look like we will be seeing indie titles from Take-Two Interactive in the very near future. Still, this is good motion for them and for the independent market. Let us hope some great games come from it.
