From Horizon Zero Dawn’s first trailers, the world and protagonist seem mysterious, quiet, but this “Secrets of the Past” video focuses on Aloy’s place in the world of Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy’s past is a mystery, along with the story of how the world became this way. She lives in a village, but is seen as an outcast, not one of them.

“Through her journey, you unravel the bigger mysteries.” says Guerrilla Games’ managing director, Hermen Hulst. Aloy doesn’t know where she was born, or who her parents are, or why giant robot animals roam her lands. Like the video says, players will see more of the world as Aloy does, for the first time. Humans barely have a place in Horizon Zero Dawn, and while looking through ruins, Aloy and the player can uncover the answer to why things are like this now.
The feature also reveals that some of the tutorials will allow players to play as a young Aloy, exploring her tribe and interacting with smaller machines.
Horizon Zero Dawn is set to release for the PS4 and Pro on February 28th.
