Nintendo has revealed that their hardware systems; the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U has had a spike in sales from the same time last year. The 3DS and all its included hardware including the New 3DS and 2DS had an 80% rise in purchases while the Wii U had a 20% increase.
The contributing factor to the success for the 3DS this year had been the release of various hard hitting games including The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D which sold 730,000 units; and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS which sold 2.4 million units since their respective release.
The Wii U had a fair share of hard hitting games that pushed its increase including the recent Mario Party 10 which sold 290,000 copies; Super Smash Bros. Wii U which sold 1.6 million copies and Mario Kart 8 which sold 1.9 million copies.
As you can see the huge factor that encouraged such a large growth in sales compared to last year was software. It’s what people have been clamoring about for years; getting Nintendo to throw out some dang good games, games that’ll give their hardware such a boost, games that sell the system to people.
