A society without rules isn’t one that makes for an enjoyable existence. This is true of virtual societies as well as real ones. Guild Wars 2 character, DarkSide, recently found out if you get caught cheating in the game, the consequences can be most severe.

Damning video evidence captured by fellow players, which showed the use of ‘hacks’ such as teleporting and dealing extra damage to other players in PvP, helped ArenaNet, Guild Wars developer, find and punish the perp’.

In a forum post, Chris Cleary, Game Security Lead, informed the community that justice had been done by saying:

In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments:

Oh yah, he’s also banned

A semi-naked death plunge is probably how I want to go too.

Now that DarkSide is no more, we’re left with a nicer, more fair game space to enjoy, but has Guild Wars 2 developer, ArenaNet, gone too far? Does this kind of brutal action belong in our modern MMO world? Discuss below.
