The social network turned tech and app collector, Facebook has announced a service called “M”. Much like Siri, Cortana, and Google Now, it is touted as a “personal digital assistant”. This assistant will be attached to your Facebook Messenger app.

Facebook exec David Marcus explained that M will be part human, part robot. “It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments, and way more,” stated Marcus. It seems M will have significantly more power than the other digital assistants, but it could be a bit dangerous giving it power over your credit card.

A version of M is being rolled out now to select users. Marcus made it clear this is an early version, but sees a bright future for the product. “It’s an exciting step towards enabling people onMessenger to get things done across a variety of things, so they can get more time to focus on what’s important in their lives.
