Terminator Genisys, which opened in July and was met with poor reviews and a mediocre box office performance, was extremely successful in China which may potentially lead to a sequel.

Variety reported that the film made $27.4 million, which is the fourth most successful opening for a Hollywood film in China.

The film was originally projected to be successful domestically so Paramount has two sequels scheduled for 2017 and 2018, but Paramount has yet to comment on if Genisys’s domestic failure will affect the plans.

The film is directed by Alan Taylor and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, and Jai Courtney. It is the fifth film in the franchise following 2009’s Terminator Salvation.
