Guardians of the Galaxy, the unlikely Marvel movie to surpass Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, is now in the early stages of an upcoming sequel.  In 2014, Guardians made a whopping $333 million in the box office to Iron Man‘s $318 mil. and Captain America‘s $176 mil.

In his return to direct the film, James Gunn decided to step up to the plate to address the rumors revolving around the plot twist-induced identity of Guardians‘ main character, Peter Quill.

“The rumors surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth'” he said on Facebook. “I don’t know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn’t through legitimate sources…We’re creating a film that doesn’t rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They’re only a very small part of what we’re cooking up for you.”

Along with the post concerning these rumors, there have also been some Twitter teasers as well. Earlier this week, Zoe Saldana tweeted a handful of pictures showing the rather goopy process of her makeup for Gamora.

There are a lot of high hopes for this sequel, which is set to premier May 5, 2017.  Until then, James Gunn has been very persistent in his desire to keep any major plot points under wraps. “I get the desire to get ‘scoops’ on character inclusion and casting choices, etc,” he said, in response to the rumors. “But since when is a plot spoiler a ‘scoop’? Is this really what fandom wants to know?”
