Even though Pacific Rim was one of 2013’s best films, grossing $411 million world wide, it seems as though the film’s sequel has been put on the bench for good. Prior to this, the film was pulled from its original release date of August 4th, 2017.

Originally, the move from set release date to indefinite was to allow for less of a time constraint. According to the first film’s distributer Universal, “the decision was made to delay the production and release of Pacific Rim so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”

Now, a new story has arisen that the project has been slated for good. Guillermo del Toro now has the time to work on other rumored projects. One rumor present is that he’s working on a remake of the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage. As well, it’s recently been announced that del Toro would help produce a new animated show on Netflix called Trollhunters.
