Pokken Tournament is the upcoming ‘Tekken-style’ fighting game that consists of Pokemon. While it’s been out in Japan arcades, the game is slated for a port release to the Wii U sometime this year. That said, game producer Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino have stated that the odds of a 3DS version of Pokken Tournament are reasonably low.

The identified issue seem to monetary rather than hardware issues as Harada suggested: “Programmer does not need technology. Programmer needs budget”. That said, in an interview with GameSpot, Hoshino had mentioned that getting the game onto the Wii U already posed a challenge let alone retaining the ‘graphical experience on the 3DS’.

While some big games have made their way to the 3DS such as the more recent Super Smash Bros. and the upcoming Hyrule Warriors Legend, it remains to be seen whether or not the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament succeeds enough to warrant the cost of a 3DS version. That said, more exclusivity to the Wii U isn’t a bad thing! The Wii U version is slated for release on March 18th worldwide.
