While this is the least surprising reveal of the year behind every other sports title, Madden NFL 17 has now officially been released. Surprise: it’s releasing in August of this year!
Perhaps the greatest surprise is that EA Sports Tiburon is developing Madden NFL 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, still keeping the title on the new system. Although sports games typically have the longest lifespan on older consoles.
EA will also reveal the game’s cover athlete along with a gameplay trailer during the 6 p.m. ET airing of ESPN’s SportsCenter on May 12th. The cover athlete will be hand-picked by EA, making Madden NFL 17 the first title since the ’09 version to not have a cover athlete picked by popular vote.
