EA has announced that Star Wars Battlefront sold more than 14 million copies during their 2016 fiscal year.

According to EA’s 2016 Financial Report, Battlefront has been performing quite well. The 14 million units sold in so far have exceeded EA’s internal projections, which were revised shortly before launch to between 10 and 13 million units shipped by the end of the fiscal year.

While this is an impressive figure, one should note that the financial report used the term “sold in” as opposed to “sold.” The former refers to how many copies were sold to retailers, not the number of copies in the hands of gamers.

The financial report also revealed the impact that Battlefront has had on EA’s player base. Around 15% of those who play Battlefront were new to the EA ecosystem. EA rewarded those who registered were rewarded with an exclusive in-game emote after signing up for the publisher’s mailing list.

Star Wars Battlefront is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It was announced recently that the title will be receiving a sequel. EA has also announced that they have plans to release a new Star Wars game every year for the next 3 or 4 years.
