It has been announced that The Last of Us Part II will be co-written by Westworld writer Halley Gross.

On Twitter, creative director Neil Druckmann announced that Halley Gross will be a co-writer for The Last of Us Part II. Druckmann stated: “Halley’s my kickass co-writer. Can’t wait to share more of the story with y’all. Spoiler alert: it’s intense.”

Along with Westworld, Gross is credited with writing an episode of the TV series Banshee, as well as the shorts Scent of a Woman and Chemistry Project.

The Last of Us Part II was announced at the PlayStation Experience this past weekend. The game seems to take place years after the first game, and sees the return of protagonists Joel and Ellie. On the PlayStation Blog, Druckmann stated: “I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and it’s characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie.”

The Last of Us Part II is being developed for the PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog has stated that the game is still in the early days of development.
