Sometimes, Batman alone isn’t enough (just ask the entire Justice League).

Recently revealed by Rocksteady was the concept of dual play in the upcoming title, Batman: Arkham Knight. This new method of gameplay will allow players to seamlessly switch between two characters of the bat family with the single press of a button, and game director Sefton Hill recently gave more details about the concept.

“We knew we didn’t want to go down the route of creating a multiplayer experience,” Hill explained in the newest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. “We thought the player being in control of both characters was really interesting, rather than splitting it up into a co-op experience.”

Players will have the option of switching between Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman and of course the Bat himself at different parts of the game, depending on which mission you’re currently playing in.

“When you get into those areas, Nightwing [for example] will join you and you’ll be able to switch between both characters whenever you want. You have one button press to switch between [them] and as you fight you can maintain a combo across both characters.”

According to Hill, it sounds like each character will play a particular role at various parts in the story that are specific to finding and defeating certain villains.

“Each character is linked into one super-villain that you’re chasing after,” Hill said. “So, taking Nightwing as an example, his story is based around hunting down the Penguin, who’s working in Gotham and supplying weapons to all of the super-villains throughout the city.”
